Day 1 - Arrive in Srinagar

Srinagar, the heart of Kashmir, serves as our initial base. Commence the day at 9 AM with a trip briefing and route overview. Explore the natural and man-made wonders of Srinagar throughout the day. The town boasts serene blue lakes and splendid gardens against the backdrop of the Majestic Himalayas, resembling a picturesque painting. Embark on a brief 15 km drive to Astanmarg, navigating steep and narrow roads to a viewpoint offering a breathtaking panoramic view of Srinagar and Dal Lake. Afterward, return to town and visit Shalimar Bagh, a Mughal garden constructed by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1616. Marvel at its three terraces, fountains, and a canal connected to Dal Lake. If time allows, visit Nishat Bagh, the second-largest Mughal garden in the Kashmir valley, offering a magnificent view of Dal Lake and the Zabarwan Mountains.

In the second half of the day, explore Nigeen Lake, adjacent to Dal Lake, surrounded by willow and poplar trees. The lakes are separated by a causeway, sometimes considered a part of Dal Lake. As dusk approaches, savor the beauty of the sunset at Dal Lake, a jewel of Srinagar. During the evening, head to Challi Point for local street food near Dal Lake—a delightful spot to enjoy small bites and unwind as the sun sets.

Day 2 - Drive to Pahalgam

Today, the drive expedition from Srinagar kicks off, heading towards one of Kashmir’s top destinations. A Kashmir trip is incomplete without including Pahalgam in the itinerary. The convoy traverses breathtaking landscapes lush green meadows, dense forests, and pristine waters.

After check-in and a brief rest, head to Betaab Valley, situated 10 km from Pahalgam between Pahalgam and Chandanwari. This picturesque location, formerly known as Hagan Valley, derives its name from the Bollywood movie “Betaab” shot extensively here in the 80s. The valley features green pastures, snow-capped mountains, towering Deodar trees, Pine forests, and the flowing river Lidder—a complete feast for the senses.

Enjoying the serene beauty and capturing moments, proceed to Chandanwari, another 10 km beyond Betaab Valley. The drive itself is thrilling, with the road winding along the Lidder River, offering clear views of snow-capped mountains. En route, encounter numerous waterfalls, take breaks to capture picturesque scenes. Chandanwari holds religious significance as the starting point of the Amarnath Yatra.

Day 3 - Drive to Aru valley and enjoy scenic Lidder river

This morning, drive 15 km from Pahalgam to the breathtaking Aru Valley, a must-visit spot. The scenic drive is dotted with photo-worthy stops amidst lush green meadows. Aru Valley offers a serene escape into nature, with the Aru River, a Lidder tributary, enhancing its charm. Visit Aru village for a warm welcome and a glimpse of local life. Lidder River, originating from Kolahoi glacier, accompanies your Pahalgam exploration. Its clear waters support diverse fish species and serve as a vital resource for locals. Engage in activities like white water rafting, angling, horse riding, and fishing. Return to the hotel, preparing for the next day.

Day 4 - Drive to Gulmarg and cover Golf course, Maharani temple, St. Mary’s church after lunch

Hit the road for Gulmarg, Kashmir’s top tourist spot, renowned for its picturesque meadows and thrilling adventure opportunities. The charming hamlet draws visitors year-round. Check into the hotel, then explore Maharani Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and built by Maharaja Hari Singh. Named after Queen Maharani Mohini Bai, it sits atop a hillock with panoramic views. Next, head to the world’s highest golf course for a stroll or golf session. Don’t miss St. Mary’s Church, a Victorian marvel from the British Raj, near the golf course. Keep the evening light, as tomorrow promises a challenging day. Give your car a break; it’s time for some foot-powered exploration.

Day 5 - Gulmarg Gondola ride and trek to Alpather (optional)

Embark on a Gondola ride to Apharwat Peak from the hotel, 3 Kms away. The two-stage cable car takes you to Kungdoor Station (3100m) in 10-12 minutes. Take a break, enjoy the views, and proceed to Phase 2 for more breathtaking sights atop Kongdori mountain (3980m). After reveling in the views, trek to Alpather Lake (4200m) for 2 hours (approx. 3 Kms). The lake, known as the Frozen Lake, offers views of the Line of Control and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Return to the hotel in the evening and relax for the rest of the day.

Day 6 - Drive to Gurez Valley, enjoy the kishenganga/Neelam river and the valley

Drive from Gulmarg to Gurez Valley, an offbeat destination in Kashmir. The route is unexplored, offering unique mountain vistas. Pause at Wular Lake, one of Asia’s largest freshwater lakes, near Bandipore. Descend Razdan Pass into Gurez Valley, where the lively Kishen Ganga River flows, later merging into the Jhelum River in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir as the Neelum River. Stay options in Gurez are limited, making camping by the river or a small hotel/homestay exciting. Try trout fishing, a local sport. Rest before heading to Dawar, the central township in Gurez. Explore the market, enjoy coffee at an Army café, and drive to Khandiyal top for a panoramic view. In Dawar, visit the marshland at the town’s far end for long-exposure shots. The mud and cut-down trees create a charming atmosphere. On the way back, encounter Kishenganga Dam Lake. Sit by the river, spotting Habba Khatoon peak, named after a poetess. During sunset, the peak, with the Kishenganga River, offers a golden photographic opportunity.

Day 7 - Drive to Sonmarg, trek to Thajiwas Snow point

This morning, head to Sonmarg, the “Meadow of Gold.” The road becomes a broad highway after Wayul Bridge, offering a smooth 50-kilometer drive. The scenery transforms after Kangan, providing an enjoyable journey. Sonmarg, at 2,730 meters, gives rise to the ‘Three Sisters’ rivers—Lidder, Sind, and Neelum—forming tributaries for the Jhelum river.

After arriving, rest and then trek (or hire a pony) to the Thajiwas Glacier snow viewpoint, a stunning location at over 10,000 feet, just 3 km from Sonmarg. Silver-shining water streams in green meadows enhance the enchanting surroundings. For those skipping the snow viewpoint, try a short river rafting stretch on the Sind river. Whether a beginner or experienced, find a rafting expedition suiting your needs. Visit Sarbal village, 2 km from Sonmarg, nestled deep in the forest next to the Sind River—an exceptionally scenic spot. End the day!

Day 8 - Stay at Sonmarg

After a hearty breakfast, embark on an adrenaline-filled drive through challenging terrain, navigating Zojila Pass and Zero Point en route to Dras. The drive includes narrow and muddy sections, testing your skills on sharp turns and steep climbs. Zojila Pass, at 3528 meters altitude, connects Kashmir to Ladakh, offering breathtaking panoramic views. Zero Point, on the other side of Zojila Pass, provides a break for Maggi and chai, along with photo opportunities. Continue towards Dras, the coldest habitable place in India with winter temperatures dropping to −23 °C. Explore the scenic town, including a visit to the Kargil War Memorial in honor of those who sacrificed their lives. Return to the hotel to conclude the day.

Day 9 - Drive back to Srinagar, Hazrat Bal Shrine Shikara

As you return to Srinagar, the thrill of the drive isn’t just about the distance but the conquered landscapes. In Srinagar, settle into your booked houseboat for the final night. Explore the unique charm and cultural experiences of these floating heavens. This leg of the journey delves into the heart of Kashmir’s culture and nature. In the afternoon, take a Shikara ride on Dal Lake to witness the sunset from Ghat No. 23. Head to Char Chinar, a small island with four chinar trees. Take a break, relax, and enjoy some refreshments. Following the Shikara ride, experience the Sound & Light Show on the banks of Dal Lake at 8 pm, lasting about 30 minutes—a perfect way to conclude the day before retiring to your houseboat.

Day 10 - Bid Adieu- Srinagar
